Ask the manager for the complete procedure
Downtown, Griffintown and Old Montreal buildings can differ significantly even on the same street. Ask for permitted days, reservation length, deposits or fees, protection requirements, contractor documentation and security check-in. These are building-specific conditions, not universal Montreal rules.
Check the loading route, not only the elevator
A truck may not clear an underground dock, while a sofa fits the elevator but not the corridor turn. Collect dock height, door opening, cab dimensions and the distance to your suite. Explain any ramp, stair or security door along that path. Send the same information for the departure building.

Resolve incompatible windows
If the first building only allows loading in the morning and the destination only allows unloading much earlier, the itinerary needs adjustment. Discuss a second date, storage or another approved slot before booking. Confirm who holds keys, opens secure doors and signs off common-area condition.
- Obtain written elevator/dock confirmation
- Send building documentation requirements to the mover
- Verify the largest item against the entire route
- Check who removes protective materials after unloading
Collect the building’s full moving procedure
Request the rules for the service elevator, loading dock, protection, security entry and any booking or administrative conditions. Ask which documents the mover must provide and when. Distinguish a building request from the mover’s contract. In Downtown Montreal, Griffintown or Old Montreal, a condo address alone does not explain its dock approach or receiving hours; obtain instructions from the actual property instead of borrowing another building’s procedure.
Check whether the two elevator windows work together
List when the departure elevator becomes available, the time needed for the agreed loading task and when the destination can receive the shipment. Ask the mover to assess whether those windows are workable. Do not independently reserve tightly separated slots and expect the crew to guarantee the gap. If one building changes its reservation, notify the other contact and the mover before treating the original schedule as valid.
Three approvals for condo receiving
A calendar slot must also include a usable dock route and someone who can grant access.
Prepare the suite and the receiving route
Measure large furniture against elevator and suite access. Mark room placement and clear corridors before delivery. Ask who supplies and removes floor or wall protection and where empty cartons can be placed. Confirm the contact who opens the dock or activates the elevator; a reservation without access credentials can still delay unloading. Recheck the rules shortly before the move, especially if construction or maintenance affects the receiving route.
Make management instructions part of the booking file
Obtain the condo’s moving instructions before confirming the appointment. Identify reservation windows, the loading route, elevator dimensions and any required paperwork. Ask who provides protection for common areas and how the elevator is placed into moving service. Building fees or deposits should be distinguished from the mover’s charges. Send the instructions to the coordinator and check that the proposed duration and access match them. Keep the manager’s day-of contact available. If the slot is changed or the elevator becomes unavailable, ask about the revised plan rather than assuming the crew can continue through another route. A confirmed condo slot is one part of the arrangement; the mover’s booking and your possession of the unit are separate confirmations.
